A night with DeMarco Murray: Part 1

It felt like I was in a war zone. I saw a flash bang go off, people bum rushing to the front. The sound of shutters firing at at 6 fps. It was a mad house. Microphones flying through the air. Grown men acting like children running towards an ice cream truck. Using my full wing span, I had to push them back as DeMarco Murray walked in the door. I kept yelling, “Back up, back up. Let me get my shot, then you all can go crazy.” This is what happens when a high profile sports star attends an event you are the photographer for. This is the story of my night with DeMarco Murray.

So if you don't know, it’s fashion week in New York. So for Hublot, one the the most high profile luxury brands, it is one of the most important weeks of the year. Fashion week sets the stage for the entire year’s fashions trends. Over the next nine months, most of the styles you see on stage, will make it’s way to you local fashion boutique in one form or another. This week, Hublot announced that Bar Refaeli is the first female ambassador for Hublot. This is huge news for Hublot as they start to push into the female luxury watch category. While Hublot has always had luxury watches in aimed at women, most of their advertising has focused on men.

So why I am telling you this? Well DeMarco Murray is another ambassador for Hublot. Hublot is the official time keeper of the Dallas Cowboys and has a strong partnership with them. Hublot created three new Dallas Cowboys themed watches for the partnership. The three watches ranged between $18,000 to $25,000. These watches aren’t your grandfather’s Casio. So from time to time, DeMarco Murray comes to Hublot events to promote the brand and the lifestyle.

Before the event, I was informed by Hublot’s PR representative that the press was going to be there. They were there to cover the event and DeMarco surprising a family. This family lost everything in a fire and their prized possession was a DeMarco signed jersey. This was such a cool idea. I could only imagine what it would be like to loss everything in a fire. When the media arrived, I was able to talk to a few of them and talk shop. This was my first time dealing with the real media. Out of no where, DeMarco Murray entered the room. The media swarmed him. I had never seen grown men swarm over someone like that. I almost never get star struck. This was another instance where I wasn’t starstruck. As I took my shots and DeMarco got to Hublot and Boardwalk Ferrari backdrop, I had to push the media back to get my shots. As soon as I got out of the way, everyone would run to swarm him. It was insane to say the least. They did the same when Darren Woodson and the family arrived. In my post on Thursday, we will cover the story of the family.
